I’ve been living in Bangkok for nearly a year, and I’m constantly on the lookout for new date night ideas with my husband. Bangkok never disappoints, there is an incredible variety of unique places and activities to enjoy during the day, in the evening, or late at night.

The Riverside is one of the most romantic areas in Bangkok, especially at sunset. Cruises along the Chao Phraya River pass iconic landmarks such as Wat Arun, the Grand Palace, and beautiful riverside temples, all glowing as they become illuminated after dark.

The atmosphere is relaxed and intimate. You can enjoy a lovely dinner, listen to traditional music, and experience the golden hour light, perfect for capturing striking photos and creating lasting memories together.

✹ My recommendation: If you prefer to stay on land, head to Wat Pho Pier, where you’ll find a few rooftop bars, such as Eagle Nest. From here, you can watch the sun set behind Wat Arun, a view I believe is one of the most beautiful temple sights in Bangkok.

Bangkok’s skyline makes rooftop bars a must-do date night idea. Many venues offer rooftop dining, tasting menus, and signature cocktails, and the views are simply wow.

Before you go, I recommend making a reservation and paying attention to the dress code. Beach sandals, tank tops, and generally sporty or beach-style outfits are usually not allowed.

For the best experience, try to arrive just before sunset, ideally around 5:30 PM (depending on the time of year), so you can enjoy the changing colours of the sky and the city lights coming to life.

You don’t have to travel far, many 5-star hotels have their own spas, offering premium services in a luxurious setting.

I personally tried a facial treatment with my husband, and we had our own private room in a beautiful Thai-style house. It was absolutely worth it and one of our most relaxing experiences in the city.

You’ll find many of the best spas in neighborhoods such as Thonglor, Sathorn, Phrom Phong, as well as in riverside hotels.

One of the best ways to get your hands dirty is by attending a pottery class. You can make your own mug, plate, or vase, a souvenir from Bangkok that will last for years. Check out Aromdee Art Studio, where a 4-hour class costs around 2,500 THB.

While browsing Song Wat Road in Chinatown, I also came across a ceramic store called Clay Songwat. They offer pottery classes as well, and you can find more details on their website, Claycircle.bkk.

Soap making class

If you’re into natural cosmetics that smell divine, you’ll love Soap Opera Bangkok. As the name suggests, they sell handmade soaps, body oils, candles, and other bathroom treats — but they also organize workshops such as soap making and perfume creation.

Thai cooking class

Cooking can be incredibly romantic, especially when you bring new recipes and flavors back home and recreate them during future date nights. I did a cooking class myself and absolutely loved it. We visited a local market to pick up fresh produce, jumped on a tuk tuk, got dressed in traditional Thai costumes, and then started cooking together.

You can expect to prepare classic dishes like papaya salad, tom yum soup, pad thai, and mango sticky rice.

Visit Paintbar, a café and evening bar offering guided painting classes, conveniently located between Thong Lo and Phrom Phong BTS stations. Reservations are required, and the 2-hour class costs 799 THB.

If you’re looking for something less traditional, check out Art101 Studio, which offers splash art classes. You’ll wear protective gear (similar to a raincoat) and splash paint onto a canvas to create your own masterpiece. The paints are non-toxic, and the experience costs 1,160 THB.

5. Pak Khlong Talat flower market

Flowers are a symbol of romance, and there’s no better place in Bangkok to see thousands of them under one roof than Pak Khlong Talat Market. This is the largest flower market in Thailand and it’s open 24/7. Expect to see endless displays of orchids, roses, and marigold garlands in every color imaginable.

The market has a unique charm, so if you’re looking for a truly authentic experience rather than just another Pinterest-style spot, this is the place for you. It’s lively, colourful, and wonderfully local.

6. Private boat ride through Bangkok’s canals

Private or not, hopping on a boat and exploring Bangkok’s canals is an absolute must. I recently crossed to the other side of the river to Thonburi, visited Talad Phlu, and stopped to see the Giant Buddha.

Along the way, I discovered hidden canals, known as khlongs, and a quieter, more cultural side of the city. The area is filled with traditional teak houses, small temples, and everyday local life, and I absolutely loved the experience.

Sunset by the river is truly magical, especially when the sun sets behind Wat Arun, one of the most stunning temples in all of Bangkok. I highly recommend making reservations for these spots, as they are very popular, especially around sunset.
