If you are coming to Thailand for one or two weeks, you don’t want to waste your precious time. I highly recommend booking a flight to Phuket, as it is the fastest, easiest, and most reliable option. There are more than 20 flights per day, and prices can be very low if you book well in advance.
Bangkok has two airports, Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, and you can fly to Phuket from both of them.

How to get to Suvarnabhumi airport
The most comfortable way to get to the airport from Bangkok is by taxi or Grab. How to get to Don Mueang airport
Apart from taking a taxi or Grab, you can use train line 21 from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, located near Chatuchak. The journey takes only 15 minutes. There are also several bus connections with multiple daily departures. Here’s a quick overview:

There is also a convenient Airport Shuttle Bus connecting both airports, in case you land at Suvarnabhumi and have a connecting flight to Phuket from Don Mueang, or vice versa. If you’re traveling on a budget, an overnight bus is the cheapest way to get from Bangkok to Phuket. Although, it doesn’t actually seem to be much cheaper than booking a flight. However, you don’t have to pay extra for your luggage on the bus, and you will also save some money on one night of accommodation.
The buses have comfortable reclining seats, AC, blankets, a toilet on board, and you will also receive water and a small snack. It’s very easy to book online, and I suggest you do so, because relying on buying a ticket at the bus station might not always work out.
Once you book your ticket online, you will receive a confirmation in your email. When you arrive at the bus station, go to the relevant window (they are numbered) and show them your confirmation. The staff will usually take your phone, scan the ticket, and either give you a sticker or a small piece of paper before directing you to the correct platform.
I recommend getting to the bus station at least 30 minutes before departure.

Bangkok to Phuket Train: How the Surat Thani Train + Bus Route Works

I know people who love to travel by train, so if you are one of them and want to have the real “Thai experience,” then this is an option for you. Please note that there is no direct train from Bangkok to Phuket, so you will have to change.
The best route is to take the train to Surat Thani and then continue by bus or minivan to Phuket. The sleeper cabins are quite comfortable; again, you will save on hotel costs and enjoy the Thai countryside. The trains are also very safe, making them perfect for anyone traveling solo.
Train from Bangkok to Surat Thani
I recommend taking the overnight train from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Station. It usually leaves around 8 PM and will get you to Surat Thani in the early morning. You can expect a 9–10 hour journey, and the cost is around 1 000 THB for a 2nd-class sleeper train with AC and a toilet.
Bus/minivan from Surat Thani to Phuket
From the train station in Surat Thani, you can continue by bus, which will get you to Phuket in 4–6 hours. The ticket costs 300–400 THB.

If for any reason flying is not an option for you and you are looking for the most comfortable door-to-door option, then hire a private transfer. I’ve only used this kind of service once, when going to Kanchanaburi, which is only a 2-hour drive by car, but it was great, super comfortable, and we were picked up right at our house. We booked it directly through the Grab app a day in advance, and it cost us around 1 800 THB.
I checked the app to see if you can also go to Phuket, and it showed me a price just under 10 000 THB. They also offer a service where they will drive your car to or from Phuket; however, this service is a bit pricey, at around 44 000 THB.
If you are interested in private transfer option, you can head to 12go.asia and book your private ride right away. The cost for a standard-sized car starts at around 10 000 THB, and for a minivan for up to 10 people, you’ll pay somewhere between 15 000 and 17 000 THB.

You can also use apps like Grab, Bolt, or InDrive. Note that taxi services here are more expensive than in Bangkok, and you can expect to pay between 800–1 000 THB for a trip to Phuket Town.
But if you want to save some money, there are also bus routes available, and they usually depart once per hour. You can check prices and make bookings on 12go.asia. Just for reference, the journey from the airport to Phuket Town costs 160 THB and takes about 1 hour.
Buses – Phuket Bus Terminal 2
The bus station is located only a 15-minute drive from Phuket Old Town. From there, you can take a taxi or a bus for 15 THB that will take you to Opp Museum Phuket.
Even if you take the train to Surat Thani and then change to a van or bus, you will still be taken to this bus terminal.
